The EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award is an initiative of the European Commission to celebrate cities in Europe that have developed ecological and sustainable aspects.

For the 2020 edition of the EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award, it is the city of Ghent, winner of the previous edition, which has been honoured. In the midst of the pandemic, this event, which is usually a face-to-face affair, had to be held by a small committee in the city’s council chamber.
A number of officials were on hand to present the project and the nominees. All of them were able to take part remotely via Zoom, and the public were able to watch the ceremony via Youtube Live.
In the end, despite the remote aspect, it was a real success thanks to the interaction between the audience and the various speakers from across Europe.
